Crater Cove Sheriff's Office is urging residents and visitors to remind themselves of safe hiking practices. Please stay on the marked trails, and avoid treking into unmarked areas. While most areas are safe to wander, the area is known to have old traps left by the early settlers. It is impossible to know where they are, and impossible to recover all of them.
Leave the trail at your own peril. Cellular signal outside of the cove is spotty at best. Notify friends or neighbors if you are leaving on a hike and how long you expect to be gone. Bring plenty of water and food for your excursion.
